Why is there inaccuracy in your water meter and submeter?
The cities we live in provide pressurized water to our municipal water systems, which are pressurized systems. Although city pumps provide the system pressure, we cause a pressure drop where we need the water delivered. This happens by opening a valve or a faucet when you flush the toilet and every time you are using water. Because air is entrained in pressurized water systems, the volume of air expands whenever and wherever the system pressure drops.
Over 99% of water meters are measured by volume. It doesn't matter if the volume is all water, all air, or a mix of both. The water meter doesn't differentiate between air or liquid and will measure whatever goes through it, and the water company bills you accordingly; even when it includes air.
How do you eliminate water meter and submeter inaccuracies?
Water meters which measures by volume, use the method known as Positive Displacement. This is the most common method used to measure water consumption, which measures the total volume read, including both water and air.
